About us
The Kunsthändlerverband Deutschland e.V. (KD) brings together the leading art dealers of Germany.
KD members deal in works of art as diverse as art history itself – from Baroque furniture and medieval sculpture to Meissen porcelain and Japanese woodblock prints, right through to the art of the modern era.
Our members are highly specialised experts who are active at international art fairs and whose connoisseurship, market knowledge and professionalism make them trusted partners for collectors, enthusiasts and public institutions alike.
The high standards of the German art trade are perhaps best demonstrated by the significant works of art our members have successfully placed with some of the world’s most distinguished private and public collections.
The central tasks of the KD are
Informing our members of developments in art market policy and the evolving legal landscape, whilst investing in the professionalism of the trade through training and continuing education;
Representing our members’ interests to key stakeholders – policy-makers, civil society and the general public;
Championing the interests of the art trade with policy-makers and stakeholders at every level;
Strengthening the role of the art trade as a vital contributor to our shared cultural heritage.
The growing volume of regulation at European level in particular has made advocacy on behalf of the art trade – both nationally and internationally – an increasingly central part of the KD’s work.
